On April 8th 2011 the Purdue Board of Trustees announced (link to press release) the creation of the Brian Lamb School of Communication at Purdue.  On July 1, 2011, the new “school” officially replaced the Department of Communication at Purdue and is named after Brian Lamb, a department alumnus, Co-Founder and CEO of C-SPAN (Biography of Brian Lamb) and one of two Purdue alumni (the other being Neil Armstrong) to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

The Brian Lamb School of Communication continues Purdue’s strong tradition of communication scholarship, providing excellent graduate and undergraduate education while supporting the values of Brian Lamb, which include a commitment to “openness” in communication and public affairs.  The new school is committed to partnering with the C-SPAN Archives which are located in Purdue’s Research Park.

A Fall 2011 celebration is planned in West Lafayette and more detailed announcements will be appearing on this website in the future.

Fall 2007 marked the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Communication Department and the 100th anniversary of communication (speech) coursework at Purdue. We are especially proud of our contributions to the university and our discipline.  We value our past and look forward to the future.
