3rd Purdue Graduate Student Conference on Communication Research

“Innovation in Communication Research: Looking Back and Thinking Forward”

Friday, March 23, 2012

University Hall 117 & 119, Purdue University

GENERAL CALL

It’s time! The Communication Graduate Student Association (CGSA) from Brian Lamb School of Communication is now accepting submissions from all Purdue University students for our third annual Purdue Graduate Student Conference on Communication Research. The conference will take place Friday, March 23, 2012 in University Hall 115 and 119.

The conference committee is generally interested in papers about communication research but is specifically interested in research related to this year’s theme of Innovation in Communication Research: Looking Back and Thinking Forward. This theme highlights dynamic research that offers glimpses of the future while still demonstrating important connections to the past. We encourage submissions that explore intersections between areas of study, make unique methodological contributions, and offer new conceptualizations of old themes.

The deadline for submissions is Friday, January 13th, 2012 at 11:59 pm EST. The PGSCCR is accepting extended abstracts for both paper proposals and panel proposals. Please format your submissions in Microsoft Word and submit them to purdue_cgsa@yahoo.com

Once your submission is received you will receive a note of confirmation. Because this is a blind review process, please ensure that your name and all identifying information only appears on the cover page. Acceptance notices will be sent out in February.

ELIGIBILTY

All graduate students at Purdue University or in absentia are eligible to submit one proposal for a paper of which they are the first author. All graduate students at Purdue University are also eligible to collaborate with other students to submit one panel proposal. (This means that, at most, one student could present a paper of which they are the first author and present their work on a panel.)

Students should submit their work by Friday, January 13th, 2012 at 11:59 pm EST to purdue_cgsa@yahoo.com. All references to the authors should only appear on the coversheet. Proposals that do not comply with submission guidelines will not be sent out for review.

INDIVIDUAL

Individual submissions should be in extended abstract form. Your extended abstract should summarize the aims, methods, and findings of your paper. From this abstract, the reviewers should be able to follow the main argument of the paper you propose to present at the conference. The extended abstract for a paper submission should not exceed 1,000 words inclusive of references. Please remove the names of all authors from the extended abstract to ensure blind review. Identifying information should only appear on the submission coversheet.

Please submit your extended abstract to purdue_cgsa@yahoo.com.by Friday, January 13th, 2012 at 11:59 pm EST.

PANEL

Panel submissions should be in extended abstract form. The extended abstract should include the title of the panel and a description of its general theme and aims. It should also include an abstract of each paper on the panel. Panels should include three or four papers. The entire proposal should not exceed 2,000 words inclusive of references. Please remove the names of all authors from the extended abstract to ensure blind review. Identifying information should only appear on the submission coversheet.

Please submit your extended abstract to purdue_cgsa@yahoo.com.by Friday, January 13th, 2012 at 11:59 pm EST.

If you have further questions, please contact conference coordinator, Kai Kuang at kkuang@purdue.edu.

We look forward to a lively and provocative exchange of ideas this March. Thank you!
