President
Vice President of Graduate Relations
Patricia Gettings
I would be honored to serve as VP of Graduate Relations. If elected, this would be my fourth time serving CGSA in some capacity and I believe that my experience would be valuable in guiding next year’s board. Also, I welcome the opportunity to help represent graduate student interests to the grad committee and would love to discuss any of your concerns/ideas. Finally, I look forward to overseeing the CGSA travel grant process! Thank you for your consideration.
Vice President of Social Relations
Maria Eller
Marcy Lendaro
I feel that I am the best candidate for the Vice President of Social Relations because I know just how important it is to reach all members of our school. Some of us have jobs, families, and other responsibilities on campus, and while we may not be able to make it to Beering every day, we still want to connect and build meaningful relationships within the school. I would love to help develop creative ways to bring graduate students and faculty together over the next year. I believe my experience in building community in the residence halls with social activities and programs will serve the CGSA and the school well.
Vice President of Professional Development
Jennifer Hoffman
Thank you for the privilege of running for CGSA Vice President, Professional Development. As VP of Professional Development I propose examining the role of teaching, research, service and professional development/ job market strategies in graduate student life through quarterly colloquia’s.
In my previous work experience I have developed and implemented several large seminars, research initiatives, and change management strategies. Each of these areas required a high degree of organization, creative problem solving, and networking, skills I believe are fully transferable to the position of VP of Professional Development.
Kai Kaung has been a tremendous VP of Professional Development and I believe that continuing to build on the work that she has done will allow the CGSA to continue to provide the highest quality programs for graduate students.
Thank you for this opportunity to serve.
Vice President of Administration
Elizabeth Dorrance
I am confident I am the right fit for the VP of Administration position because I am organized, experienced, and dedicated. Organization is a passion of mine and I know this position’s success depends on organizational skills for information, money, and fundraising management. I also believe I would truly enjoy the position. I have served as treasurer before for the “CGSA” of my master’s program as well as served on executive boards as Vice President, Recruitment VP, and Risk Management VP positions during my undergraduate career. I have the experience and the motivation to do well in this position and I would be proud to serve on the board for our Communication Graduation Student Association. Thank you for your consideration!
Vice President of New Student Relations
Megan Kenney
Prateik Sarma
New Student Relations is a position which requires one to be able to relate to and recognize issues faced by new graduate students while also having an understanding of the Greater Lafayette community & the Purdue culture. Being a new student myself and going through this process as the Masters-at-large I am quite familiar with the first aspect. On the other hand, having done my undergrad here I’m also very familiar with life at Purdue. As such, I bring a perfect balance between these two position requirements. I’ve also been an integral part of the new member orientation process for Delta Lambda Phi. As Vice President, I was in charge of the recruitment period and also took part in decisions regarding new membership orientation. Thus, I have experience with new member orientation.
As for what I hope to add to this position, I want to improve the buddy pairing system. I would like to see implemented a quick survey for potential buddies and one for new students so the pairings match people based on factors such as interests, similarities, level of comfort in this campus, etc. I believe a revamp of the buddy system would benefit new students greatly. Secondly, I hope to create events specifically for new students so they get to build camaraderie amongst themselves. I believe this would benefit them greatly because, while there is already a means for graduate students to all meet each other, there isn’t one specifically designed for new students to maintain ties with their own cohort outside of just academia. These events could really help new students cope with the difficult transition into graduate student life.
Now that I’ve laid out my credentials and ‘vision’ for this position I hope you all take the time to vote for me! J
